Andy Guidry was born and raised in Houston,
Texas. He and
his wife Susan, and their first child moved to McAllen in1973
to manage a large retail store. Throughout the yearsAndy
attended the University of Houston and UTPA, pursuinga
degree in business. Andy and Susie added two more childrento
their family in 1975 and 1976.
Andy
entered the gardening business almost by accident, Dr.
Clifford Hobbs, an experienced horticulturist, approachedAndy
and Alan LeClere, his father-in-law, about building a Garden
Center on the large piece of property next to his retailstore.
Realizing that McAllen had a great need for a full service Garden
Center, they immediately began the plans to build one. In
1978, three families, Dr. and Mrs. Hobbs, Allan and Idella LaClereand
Andy and Susan Guidry opened Valley Garden Center.
In
the years to come the Hobbs and the LeCleres retired fromthe
business and the Guidrys became partners with Will and JonKlement.
A number of years later Valley Garden Center is theLargest
full service garden center in South Texas, employingnearly
100 wonderful valley residents.
The expert
knowledge and hard work of Will and Jon Klementhas
been invaluable through the years. They have enabled us togrow
into what we are today.
In 1998, Will
Klement retired from the Center and Andy tookover
the day to day business of the retail store.
Andy
and Susie Guidry and Jon and Patty Klement are nowlooking
forward to a long and fruitful partnership in Valley GardenCenter
and we all look forward to serving everyone in the valleyfor
years to come.
